The peeling birch bark also makes me curious. It is soft, light, and naturally shed, which can be considered as the skin of the birch tree. The natural shedding of birch bark attracted me. Similar to human skin, old skin calluses, injured skin scabs then fall off and grows up new skin. A piece of bruised, peeling birch bark is like a traumatic experience. The difference is that traumatic memories are not easily forgotten and healed whereas birch bark can be easily peeled off and grow out new. Therefore, I use the form of birch bark in my works to express my desire for people to heal their inner wounds.
